Stone is the only natural resource Mani is rich in. It is used for building houses and square towers with the corners strengthened with big slabs called "gonaria". The windows of the towers were so small that no enemy could use them to get inside. Towers had loop-holes for guns. Most towers were two storied. Most of them are in a rather bad condition nowadays.
